A few days ago, our choir had to travel from downtown to the east side of Caracas because a renowned musician with a long career in Venezuela had died, and we had to sing in his honor and to support his family. That was a gray day in every sense of the word, because beyond the death and sadness, there was a lot of rain and fog, and I myself was not feeling very well emotionally, but I tried to disconnect from those feelings to enjoy the trip. After all, it is the most beautiful cemetery I have ever seen in Venezuela, and I am happy to visit it on rare occasions, so I took advantage of the opportunity to take some photographs for the first time.
Hace unos días nuestra agrupación coral tuvo que viajar del centro al este de Caracas, y es que murió un músico de gran renombre y trayectoria para Venezuela y teníamos que cantar en su honor y para apoyar a su familia. Ese sí que fue un día gris en todos los sentidos, ya que más allá de la muerte y la tristeza había mucha lluvia y neblina y yo mismo no me sentía muy bien anímicamente hablando, pero traté de desconectarme de esos sentimientos para disfrutar del viaje, después de todo es el cementerio más hermoso que he conocido en Venezuela y me alegra visitarlo pocas veces, así que aproveché de hacer algunas tomas fotográficas por primera vez.
This place is located in La Guairita, an area of the municipality of El Hatillo, and I think the few times I have visited this distant municipality have been to come to this cemetery and the cathedral, always for musical engagements. The journey is long, but you find yourself in a unique, beautiful, quiet, and visually appealing resting place thanks to its elegant architecture. In fact, I don't think all families can afford to be in a cemetery like this one, which stands out for having multiple funeral parlors, making funeral homes unnecessary for those who can opt for this service.
Este lugar se encuentra en La Guairita, una zona del Municipio El Hatillo, y creo que las pocas veces que he visitado este lejano municipio ha sido para venir a este cementerio y a la catedral, siempre por compromisos musicales. El viaje es largo, pero te encuentras con un lugar de reposo único, hermoso, silencioso y atractivo visualmente por su elegante arquitectura, de hecho creo que no todas las familias pueden darse el lujo de estar en un cementerio como este, el cual destaca por tener múltiples salas de velación de difuntos, haciendo que las funerarias no sean necesarias para quienes puedan optar por este servicio.
There were few people here that day, so I explored as far as I could, as I have a natural respect for places like this. Beautiful buildings stood on hills, and in the background was a huge field where the graves are located. The place stands out for its green grass and numerous flowers that family members bring to the resting places. It is so large that you can hardly hear other people, only silence and the singing of birds that break it for a few seconds.
Poca gente se encontraba aquí este día, así que exploré hasta donde pude, ya que tengo un respeto natural con lugares como este. Hermosas edificaciones se encontraban sobre colinas y al fondo un enorme campo donde se encuentran las tumbas. El lugar destaca por el verde del pasto y numerosas flores que los familiares se encargan de llevar a los lugares de reposo. Es tan grande que difícilmente escuchas a otras personas, solo mucho silencio y el canto de las aves que los cortan por algunos segundos.
After singing, I separated from the group with the intention of exploring, reflecting, and taking photographs. I let myself be carried away by the feelings of the moment and the place, but a nice soprano girl accompanied me to capture moments, and the day gradually became more cheerful. I was impressed by how well-kept the entire cemetery is; there are employees who maintain it in the best condition, and it is a perfect place to visit and feel at peace, even though such places usually make us feel nostalgic.
Luego de cantar me separé del grupo con la intensión de explorar, reflexionar y tomar fotografías. Me dejé llevar por los sentimientos del momento y del lugar, pero una buena chica Soprano me acompañó para capturar momentos y el día se fue alegrando poco a poco. Me impresionó lo bien cuidado que está todo el cementerio, hay empleados que lo mantienen en el mejor de los estados y es un campo perfecto para asistir y sentirse en paz aunque generalmente sean lugares que nos llevan a la nostalgia.
Not all cemeteries in Venezuela are like this one. Some older ones are full of sculptures, but others that are more modern are in poor condition and have been vandalized by criminals. This happens especially with many public buildings, but I never lose faith that things will improve. This place makes me see that even a place that usually inspires sadness can be very beautiful, at least for those of us who love to see beauty in every corner, this is a perfect place. No todos los cementerios en Venezuela se parecen a este. Algunos antiguos están llenos de esculturas, pero otros más modernos se encuentran en mal estado y son profanados por la delincuencia, pasa especialmente con muchas edificaciones públicas, pero nunca pierdo la fe de que las cosas mejoren. Este lugar me hace ver que hasta un lugar que generalmente inspira tristeza puede ser muy hermoso, al menos para quienes amamos ver belleza en cada rincón este es un sitio perfecto.
