A comfortable, efficient base almost at the gates of the Grand Bazaar, with the tram practically outside — ideal for sightseeing, even if the hotel itself was easier to appreciate than to remember.

A tiny former bank beside the Spice Bazaar, with exceptional personal service, a spectacular rooftop and an unmistakable old-Istanbul atmosphere — my strongest hospitality experience of the four.

A comfortable upscale base in Maçka, well placed for Nişantaşı and Beşiktaş — memorable less for the room than for the cocktail that eventually required kitchen equipment.
