Hello all friends, and welcome back to Hotspot Italy, a few days ago I went for a simple walk in the village of Montorio, a small hamlet in the municipality of Verona.
The castle is in a hillside position overlooking the valleys, a great spot to spot the enemy, and I must say that it is still in very good condition, however, we must say that over time it has had several restorations.
There are not many written records of this manor, but it appears to have been built around the year 1000 by Emperor Otto III, thus predating the dynasty of the lords of Verona, the Della Scala family.
Then like so many castles that were built in Italy, it passed from different seigniories, depending on the conquests that were taking place at the time.
First the Scaligeri, then the Carraresi and finally to the Republic of Venice.
When it ended up under Austric rule unfortunately it was a bit destroyed because they wanted to turn it into a barracks, but fortunately the main part of the castle was saved and has come down to our day.
I hope that more aventi will be revived again the evening shows, because yes in here we used to organize concerts and theatrical performances with the castle as a backdrop, let's hope this will come back!!!
So if you visit Verona, I recommend that you definitely take a tour here, because by the way, admission is free.
I will definitely still make a round here, because I plan to make a video for my YouTube channel, so follow me, thank you for reading this post, see you next time!
