We stopped in Telavi to see a tree, I kid you not, it is believed to be 900 years old and the biggest in Georgia
Wonderful, I took a snap and enquired if there was anything less underwhelming to see
When the mention of a market was made everyone's ears pricked up
Me: snapping
The ladies: yup buying more crap to stuff in their suitcases take home then think, "why did I buy that"
It turned out to be quite a vast, covered market, with stalls spilling outside into the open. A great place for the local farmers to bring their to bring their produce, fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, and more.
At times it seemed like there were more sellers than buyers.
Churchkhela, a Georgian sweet delicacy: Grape must and flour. Mixed nuts (almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts) and sometimes chocolate and raisins are threaded onto a string, dipped in thickened grape must and mulberry juice, and left to set. Does that sound yummy scrummy?
I tried it, I heaved, I discreetly as possible gobbed it into a tissue, that was one of the foulest things I have ever tasted.
NO! I am not tasting your dried figs
NOR your fish, I am a selective eater
That'll do.
Away from the food hall there were typical market stalls seeling a multitude of items from haberdashery
Through to second hand books and magazines
Most of the ladies bought Churchkhela.
