I am out of the Hrazdan Gorge, the sun is high, the temperature in the upper 80's F. Not the best for a route march, but at least I am sweating the toxins out of my body. Always look for the positives.
Tsitsernakapert, should be just over that bridge, turn right and just keep walking.
Built at the end of the 1960's a true testament of Soviet construction the stadium was constructed over an 18 month period.
It was officially opened in November 1970 by Leonid Brezhnev,to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Armenian SSR.
The first competitive game took place in May 1971 when Ararat Yerevan defeated Kairat Almaty 3-0 in front of 78,000 spectators. At the time it was the fourth largest football stadium in the USSR
Due to stringent UEFA regulations on safety and security and despite several attempts at renovations, the stadium was deemed unfit for use, offers of privatisation as recently as 2020 have failed. Unsustainable , there is the possibility of demolition being mooted about.
Amazing floodlights
As hard as I tried I just could not find a way inside.....
.... so just amused myself wandering through a flea market.
Cups of all sizes
and a fine selection of well worn footwear
and assorted junk and rubbish, as seen in many a car boot sale here in the uk. FFS I have thrown better stuff in the trash than try and sell it on.
Spooky dolls that just stare at you, putting a curse on you.
I left without purchase. Time marches on
For in the far off distance my intended original destination, Tsitsernakapert, the Armenian genocide monument.
Walk on!
