Hello Travel Friends,
Today I want to show you Yoron island in Japan.
Yoron Island truly felt deserted, with empty schools and no people on the streets. It felt as though no one was living on the island.
This island has very little tourism and is the first island you encounter if you are heading north from Okinawa. It has quite a few abandoned buildings, and most of the remaining structures are empty.
We explored this hotel that is currently being demolished. Upon examining the fuse box, we discovered that the building was constructed in 1988. The view from the roof was breathtaking, offering an almost complete panorama of the entire island.
The school on this island could accommodate at least 400 students, but after speaking with the locals, we learned that there are only 20 students left. This island truly illustrates the decline in the number of Japanese children.
Graveyards all around Okinawa and the neighbouring islands are expansive, and every year, families gather to have a picnic lunch in the graveyards. After speaking with many Japanese people, they explained that this tradition is believed to bring good luck.
This island had incredibly clear waters. Where we were docked, we saw an abundance of marine life. The entrance to the harbour was very shallow, but fortunately, since we have a catamaran, we did not have any problems navigating these shallow waters.
I hope enjoyed this travelogue, I'm always open to suggestions so please let me know what I can improve.
Paul
