Un día de papagayos 🪁 / A day of kites 🪁

Saludos hivers. En abril asistí a una pequeña exhibición de cometas o papagayos 🪁 que hubo en mi ciudad. La misma se realizó en el Paseo Bicentenario o Paseo de la Juventud. Es un lugar ideal porque es abierto, muy amplio y libre de cableado eléctrico, algo muy importante a la hora de volar papagayos. El día estaba soleado, el cielo de un azul intenso y había enormes nubes blancas que le daban mucha belleza al paisaje.

Hello hivers. In April I attended a small exhibition of kites 🪁 that was in my city. It was held on the Paseo Bicentenario or Paseo de la Juventud. It's an ideal place because it's open, very spacious and free of electrical wiring, something very important when flying kites. The day was sunny, the sky was an intense blue and there were huge white clouds that gave a lot of beauty to the landscape.

Debajo de un toldo había un grupo de personas que estaban haciendo los papagayos, que es como les decimos en Venezuela a las cometas. Los materiales que estaban utilizando eran palitos de bambú, bolsas recicladas, papel, tiras de tela, cinta plástica y pabilo. Los papagayos terminados los iban poniendo en unas bolsas grandes para luego regalárselos a los niños que iban llegando y querían volar papagayo.

Under an awning there was a group of people who were making the kites or papagayos (as we call them in Venezuela) using materials such as bamboo sticks, recycled bags, paper, strips of fabric, plastic tape and straw. They put the finished kites in large bags and then gave them to the children who arrived and wanted to fly kites.

Papagayos, tijeras y un buen vaso de papelón con limón para refrescarse 🥤 / Kites, scissors and a good glass of panela (sugar cane) with lemon to cool off 🥤

Listos para volar 🪁 / Ready to fly 🪁

Una sola vez he volado papagayos, y fue cuando era pequeña, aunque pueda parecer sencillo no lo es tanto jajaja 🥴, pero una vez que logras elevar el papagayo es una cuestión de control y seguridad para mantenerlo en el aire. Ese día había muchos niños aprendiendo a volar papagayos y otros que se ve que ya sabían.

I have only flown kites once, and that was when I was a child, although it may seem simple, it's not so simple hahaha 🥴, but once you manage to raise the kite it's a matter of control and safety to keep it in the air. That day there were many children learning to fly kites and others who apparently already knew how to do it.

Algunos se quedan enredados 🤷🏻‍♀️ / Some get tangled 🤷🏻‍♀️

En el lugar también estaba un puesto donde entre otras cosas vendían papagayos en forma de dragones y aves pero casi todos estaban volando los papagayos tradicionales que por supuesto los regalaban 😉 / There was also a stall where, among other things, they sold kites in the shape of dragons and birds, but almost everyone was flying the traditional kites, which of course they were free 😉

La parte más difícil, preparar el papagayo para alzar el vuelo / The most difficult part, preparing the kite to take flight

Ahora que lo pienso debí haber agarrado un papagayo para volarlo, no se porqué no lo hice 🤔 jajaja 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️. Pensé que habría más gente pero aún era temprano y por la cantidad de papagayos que estaban haciendo seguramente vendrían más personas en la tarde cuando el sol no estuviese tan fuerte jajaja, porque era casi de mediodía y de verdad que estaba haciendo mucho calor 🥵.

Now that I think about it, I should have grabbed a kite to fly it, I don't know why I didn't do it 🤔 hahaha 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️. I thought there would be more people but it was still early and because of the amount of kites they were doing, surely more people would come in the afternoon when the sun was not so strong hahaha, because it was almost noon and it was really very hot 🥵.
