Hello travelers! In this blog: 22 days in Santiago de Cuba I am going to tell you about the first part of my stay in the province.

Santiago de Cuba is a province located in the southeast of Cuba and the second most populated of the island. It is famous for its history and also for the beauty of its main municipality, although you often hear people from Santiago say that Santiago is not what it used to be.

On February 22, 2023, I arrived at the Havana bus terminal to travel to the province of Santiago de Cuba. The wait was boring and sad for me. When it was time to board I was a bit distracted as I was worried about my luggage, which was a complete waste of time. I had seat 21, so I got the window. My traveling companion was a rather older man who seemed to be traveling uncomfortably the whole time.

The bus left the terminal seven minutes after the time it said on the ticket and as it took the highway the driver played the song. ''Gitana'' by Shakira. Afterwards, I was entertained watching the scenery until I fell asleep. We made a total of five stops along the way, so I took the opportunity to stretch my legs and go to the bathroom. The trip lasted approximately fourteen hours.

At 5:30 am on February 23, 2023, I was already at the bus terminal in Santiago de Cuba and I told myself that even though I had traveled to the province for work assigned from my workplace, I would find the time to get to know this eastern part of Cuba that was totally unknown to me.

I was lodged in a house in Reparto Vista Alegre which belongs to Villa Gaviota. The assigned room was room 64 and I shared it with the head of the project for which I would be working for a while, her name is Terina. One block from the house is the restaurant where I had breakfast, lunch and dinner during my stay.

On February 24, my co-worker Walfrido arrived, he had also been assigned by our work center to be in the Oriente project. His room was in the same house I was in, only down the hall.

After lunch Walfrido offered to take me to see the center of the city, as he knew the province well.

We begin our walk through the Plaza Marte which is located in one of the centers where much of the population of the province frequents. There are six gardens that harmonize the entrance and exit areas of the square.

In the center stands the column of Liberty, protected by four cannons.

Finally, we entered Enramada Street, which is the most commercial street in Santiago de Cuba, and reached the Bay.

In my next blog I will tell you about three of the touristic places in the province that I was able to go to. Do you want to read me?

Thank you very much for opening my blog. Have a nice day!

All photos were taken by me, except for the photos where I appear, which were taken by my friend Walfrido.
