Taking a Nice photograph is pretty easy with the modern tools we have today; Smartphones are equipped with pretty decent cameras lately. However taking a Fantastic one, or merely a Great one is not so easy as I figured by trying to capture a beautiful 'infinity' fountain in Dubai.
Sorting my photographs, I remembered I was trying to get at least a great shot, therefor I took shots at slightly different angles. Apparently three. But you know what? None made the great level.
My first realisation when at first - in slomo browsing mode - I saw the three photographs, I felt a different emotion viewing and seeing each one of them. Quite strong emotions I must add.
- Surprised in a kinda positive way: I felt I jumped backwards
- Lightly Scared: A dark something was just in front of me
- Disappointed: None of the three are great photographs
Interesting! Isn't it?
Three seemingly very similar pictures can have such different impact on us.
Check it yourselves...
What did You Feel?
I got even more disappointed when further examining the photographs to understand why the different emotions, I noticed so many elements that are not right. I'm not nearly close to a kinda ok amateur photographer.
The good side of this though: I can only do better :)
- Wrong Background: Hard to do something about that though without post-processing; Something I'm not so good at anyway
- Optimal Angle: Must be one but I didn't capture it
- Balance: Difficult to find; Photo C is not totally bad but still too much dark
- Details: Matters a lot; eg Reflection in photo A should be in photo C
I know for sure, next time I'm gonna schedule at least an hour - instead of the 10 or 20 seconds I used to shoot these three stills - to try and take a perfect photograph. Will need laptop as well, and some dark-ish place to watch the still images on a larger screen. A small screen on modern smartphones can be so deceiving!
