APUNG MAMACALULU!

It's the first Friday of the month I went to visit the Apu shrine here in Angeles City Pampanga. Every Friday thousands of devotees flock to the shrine. When I was growing up I notice that why not Sunday why Friday? I found out that it is to mourn the death of Christ on Good Friday.

The Apu Shrine.

In Kapampangan's term Apu means to show love or affection. We also use Apu to call our Lola or grandmother.

The parking area for priests.

There are 2 major reasons people come here to visit the shrine to pay their respect and to buy different items on the street. Local vendors are everywhere so expect heavy traffic when visiting here.

Bracelet.

I went to this store to buy my bracelet Php 20. I gave mine to a friend in Bataan.

The Side Street.

As you can see both side walks are packed with different kind of vendors.

Crops from the mountains.

Our indigenous Aeta are also here to sell their root crops mostly sweet potatoes or kamote, bananas, papaya and ube or purple yam.

Fresh Harvest.

I was trying to buy Guyabano or Graviola but they are not ripe yet 🤣. The Aeta people just harvested these crops to sell it here. Local farmers cannot compete with them because the crops are so cheap and they do not use fertilizers. I do hope it stays this way.
