Just going back on some our photos from our time in Europe... wow, I have heaps of them that I had intended to post here on TravelFeed and they are backlogged for quite a few years! So, I think that I'm going to have quite a few posts to get through them... lots of places that I've visited whilst working or performing, lots of places that we visited as a family... and lots of restaurant reviews as well!

There are a number of beaches in Den Haag, it is quite a popular place for tourists from Germany and the inner parts of the Netherlands to come and visit, to experience the sand and some salty water. The most popular ones are Kijkduin and Scheveningen, but those were not really that appealing to our family.

Kijkduin and Scheveningen are the sorts of beaches that are better associated with party people... they are heavily built up boulevards with lots of restaurants, casinos and place to sit and drink yourself silly in the Sun. Plus, they are full of people that just lie in the Sun all the day to get that perfect lobster coloured tan.

... in other words, it is the sort of beach that you go to to be seen and to take beautiful photos for your social media feeds.

Us? We prefer to have much less people... and the Zuiderstrand (behind the temporary home of the Residensie Orkest of Zuiderstrand Theatre) fit that bill perfectly. There is only a single little kiosk/cafe and it is a bit of a pain in the arse to get to with no public transport... so, we would either drive or ride the e-bikes down to get here.

All of that means that it is not popular with the "to be see" crowd and it is also difficult to get to for the tourists with no access to cars and not much in the way of accommodation nearby.

This gives everyone lots and lots of space to just sit down and stretch out... you often seen dog walkers and there is also ample room to fly kites further down the beach as well. In fact, this is where our oldest child learnt to fly her new "real" kite! There is a nice amount of wind on most days to do that... so, if it is too windy to be altogether comfortable on the beach and in the water, then it is perfect for kite flying!

Of course, like most places in the Netherlands, at some points in time... it does get crazily windy. But on those days, you aren't likely to be headed down this way anyway!

So, if you find yourself in Netherlands and wanting to head down to the beach... but wanting to stay away from the loud crowds... then head own to Zuiderstrand for a nice beach experience! Bring a picnic or some food... there aren't that many places to eat at, and that is definitely part of the appeal!

Plus, bring a tent or and beach umbrella... there is also very little shade!
