Oh Netherlands... why did we ever leave? Just looking at all these photos that I have on archive for posting... that I never got around to posting when I was in Europe, but now am finding gaps in my posting schedule to revisit. It brings back so many fond memories... the lush green of summer!
Anyway, these photos are of the Maximapark in the outskirts of Utrecht. One of the most beloved public parks in the Netherlands... and we were spending the summer house-sitting for friends nearby. Actually, I think that we spent two summers in this area as house-sitters for two different friends!
... and this park was quite nearby, and so we dropped into have a little visit and to spend our afternoon here.
The serene canals and the crazily overgrown green of summer! It was such a beautiful place... and there was a huge observation tower from which I took some of these photos as well. Such a great sight to look out over Utrecht and the surrounding areas.
On the amenities side of things, there was a little restaurant and a very popular playground in the area. So, a place where we could have the kids entertained before the long walk back to the house where we were staying... a little ice-cream treat waiting for them on both ends of the walk!
It is funny how we thought that the European summers were pretty warm... we had gotten quite acclimatised to the temperatures over there! Now... looking at the temperatures that we have here, we would think that the summers in Europe are pretty tame in comparison!
Anyway, if you are in this area... definitely worth a visit. Either for a walk, or a little cafe afternoon snack... or just to take the kids to play whilst you read a book in the shade!
