Phew... this is a bit of another blast from our past! Avontuurborderij Molenwaard, a place that we had visited with our little children when we were living in the Netherlands. Fond memories... I've been sort of avoiding posting most of the pending photos from our time there... I'm quite sentimental, and I feel like seeing all those photos will remind me of our other life on the other side of the planet!
Our kids are now older, and we are living out a different (but still good...) life back in Australia. We all miss different things about the Netherlands and Europe, but that chapter of our lives is finished, and we do look back with fondness.
Avontuurborderij Molenwaard is a pretty popular attraction for young families, and we went to visit it during one of the school breaks. It is something that I have noticed a bit in Australia... European days out can be quite old fashioned... a family park with old school amusements, games, and farm animals. In Australia, it tends to be a bit more commercial...
The Avontuurborderij isn't that big... but just the perfect size to pass the day with two young kids!
The entrance is pretty cute...
... as is the walk to the main part of the borderij.
We did bring food (in typical Dutch tradition!!!), but the cold day did tempt us to buy something hot to share around as well! As usual, this sort of fare is overpriced... but when you are sitting outside in the chilly air and the weak sun... well, there is nothing better than having a few warm chips inside of you!
Anyway, I'll just drop a bunch of photos from our day here.... a great day, and one that still brings up lots of happy memories. Lots of petting animals, a donkey ride, a little race track, a working windmill... and lots of pleasant strolls. It wasn't crazily busy... I do wonder if these places are starting to go out of fashion over time, as the more glitzy and commercial places start to take hold everywhere in the world. Still, I'm happy for other people to experience those money pits... it just makes more space for people like us in these quiet out of the way spots!
