The history of visiting the Museum of Wooden Architecture in Kostroma is inextricably linked with a visit to the Ipatiev Monastery. This is a unique structure that has an ancient history.
In the monastery, the Romanovs were married to the kingdom. We can say that the history of the Romanov dynasty, which ruled in Russia for 300 years, began from the Kostroma land.
Now the monastery belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church. In Soviet times, the premises of the monastery housed a museum. It was a nature museum and a history museum.
I cannot say, in my opinion, that the transfer of the monastery to the Russian Orthodox Church is good. The fact is that after the transfer, a unique church on stilts burned down on the territory of the monastery.
Many blame this fire on the leadership of the monastery.
There is another unique exhibit of Russian wooden construction next to the monastery. This is the Church of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Theotokos, which was brought from the village of Kholm, Kostroma region.
This wooden temple is located in the so-called settlement. This part of the city has one-storey buildings with old houses. Walking through this settlement is very pleasant as you find yourself in the old Russian city.
Around you there are wooden houses, a wooden temple, narrow streets and a sense of real life.
