Today I want to share with you a mural I photographed over a year ago on the Avenue de Bern. In the center of the magnificent city of Lisbon, it is part of the walls of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the New University of Lisbon.

This mural was painted in 2014 at the University's invitation by one of Portugal's most promising urban art projects - the Underdogs. With the collaboration of Caos, Frederico Draw, Gonçalo Ribeiro (MAR), Diogo Machado (Add Fuel), this impressive piece has been marking the landscape of passers-by since 2014.
The mural, painted in honor of Salgueiro Maia, one of the most prominent figures of April 25, 1974, highlights his stoicism, as well as the reality that has changed since then... From the dreams that were achieved to those that have yet to be achieved. As someone who doesn't care much for politics, I nevertheless value the achievements of that April of '74.
This mural has recently been repaired and it is no longer possible to see this "version". According to reports, the new version highlights the importance of women in the Carnation Revolution.
The version I photographed reads in Latin "Legum Servi sumus ut liberi esse possimus" and "aut viam inveniam aut faciam".
I couldn't miss the elements that are part of history and the global imagination, such as the carnations, the clenched fists, the G3s with the carnations in the barrel.
The intricate geometry, from the beret to the military suit, all contributed to embodying a character that was full of complexity and brought so many a different morning the next day.
