Steem fam! :)

After all those papaya salad or easily called 'Somtam' (ส้มตำ) we have been talking about for quite a bit, there're something more to it. Especially, when you go dine in with a group of friends or the whole family. You know, Asian style.. You wouldn't want to order just a thing or two. You want the whole full set to eat all together.

Here, in Thailand, when we eat papaya salad, sticky rice is of course a must! Some protein is also needed so now we're getting into meat zone..

North-Eastern Thai style hot pot

Aka 'Jim Jum' (จิ้มจุ่ม)

'Jim' means dip in (some sauces).
'Jum' means drop something down quickly or briefly in or into liquid.

Yes! It's the way we cook and eat it using chopsticks picking up the meat and drop it down quickly in a boiling soup in the clay pot. Then, dip it in spicy sauce.

Jim Jum is a street version of hot pot. Something like, suki yaki, shabu shabu but this one, it's cooked in a small clay pot on the charcoal stove. It's not that big as you can see in the photos so it's good for 2-3 people.

Different places have their own sauces' recipes. This one they use the one called 'Nam Jim Jaew (น้ำจิ้มแจ่ว)' which pretty much is chilli powder with fish sauce and lime juice.

Nam Jim Jaew (น้ำจิ้มแจ่ว)

What do we put into a clay pot?

  • The soup provided
  • Veggies
  • Fresh herbs (Sweet basil, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves and galanga)
  • Many parts of pig, chicken or beef. (This time we ordered pork set!)
  • Eggs
  • Vermicelli

Pork comes with all the organs and eggs.

I LOVE eating jim jum every once in a while

It's such a good way to enjoy an evening. It really is! No rush. Having good laugh and conversation over the meal with family and friends is just the feeling you could never find anything like it. Oh! Also the fact that it's a really hot country, you eat hot food and yes, also spicy. You would never find anything like it either LOLOL

Grilled meat

Everything grilled is just so good along with Somtam and sticky rice. It's a great contrast. Here, we got some pork jaw (My most favourite one. It's dang fat and that's why it's dang good.) and catfish. Chicken is also very common and could be found in all the Somtam shops.

These grilled meats are most of the time be eaten with Nam jim jaew (น้ำจิ้มแจ่ว) also. It goes well together.

These whole somtam set is totally a must when visiting Thailand. Like, really! If you are in Bangkok, 'King Dong Moo Jum' is for sure the one I recommend the most. It's literally my most favourite in Bangkok so far. Though, it's a bit off the city center..

Lots of lots of love,
Mo ❤
