The most important meal of the day!
In my culture (Thai), they always say that breakfast is the most important meal.. Is that true? How can one meal is more important that the others?
Who knows the fact, please just let me know! I love eating a lot more at dinner time though LOL
Taiwanese Breakfast in Taipei
I was so so so lucky while traveling through Taiwan. I have a few local friends showed me around and you know, they're locals! One of them was such a foodie and and he sure knew where to get good food! Oh, yes! He knew where to get good breakfast as well.
Wait, is there such a thing like a Taiwanese breakfast? I think so! I just had a few types of them in Taiwan! We went for a breakfast tour.
Wait, is there such a thing like 'Breakfast tour' ? I think so! I almost exploded LOL
Taiwanese breakfast tour in Taipei guided by a local foodie! 😲
Can you believe, it's such a great feeling waking up a bit earlier than you usually do and explore new places for food. The weather is not that hot as during the day. (Taipei is sooooo hot!.. The whole Taiwan, actually) Also, the fact that it's not as busy.
If you're ever in Taipei, here are some places that you could go eat ALL these few types of Taiwanese food in a few hours as the places are all located in a walkable distance. Don't thank me, thank Neal who guided me that day! :D
🍽 Steamed buns and fresh spring rolls at 萬福號 Yuan Huấn Long Yuan
It's a small family run restaurant. Popular for their Gua Bao (Pork steamed buns) though, we got 2 items..
1. Gua Bao / Steamed buns / Tiger bites pork
What was the 3rd name again? Tiger bites pork? Yes! They said it looks like a tiger mouth that bites pork LOL It's basicly a steamed bun that comes in a look of a taco.. a fluffy taco, you know.. LOLOL (I'm so off the topic hahaha)
2. Fresh spring rolls stuffed with steamed vegetables.
This one is ok but I wouldn't say 'I like it'. It's kinda bland and I do understand, who would eat strongly flavorful food in the early morning? (Me!!!!!)
These are the ingredients they put in the roll!
🍽 Oyster vermicelli at A Chuan Oyster Omelet
I'm actually surprised they have English name on Google maps because it's a small stand with a few seats in a small place. It's also a family run restaurant.
From the title, of course there are oyster! and vermicelli! I usually like a fresh raw oyster much more but I don't mind trying new things as well.
Oyster in a vermicelli and gravy! + Pork intestines (They love it! Intestines everywhere!) and topped with a few cilantro leaves.. how cute LOL
What's cuter though? Me! trying to play cute with a bowl of oyster vermicelli. Haha!
🍽 Mochi at 雙連圓仔湯
It's a dessert restaurant that's been opened since 1951. That's olden! (My English gets better everyday by teacher @adetorrent LOL ) and not just mochi but so many types of dessert offered. We went for a sweet breakfast. I let Neal pick what to order. He ordered 3 items and they're all interesting..
1. Mochi
That's the main thing we went for actually. Taiwanese LOVE mochi. I found mochi in a stuffed croissant. Can you believe!!!?? It's like a double carb snack and I was stunned! LOL
This one we got was great though. The soft and chewy mochi that sprinkled (poured) with peanut powder, black sesame and sugar.
Here's the mochi before being on a plate. They kinda boiled it with oil.. (I'm confused too!)
2. Cold Sweet Peanut soup
Basically just what's it called then you choose any toppings you like. We chose small little mochi and taro. I love taro!!!
3. Stuffed herbal dough balls
This is not quite a sweet type. It's savory as it's stuffed with meat! and its dough are mixed with a bit of herb. This one is hard to explain.. Very firm and chewy outside and the inside part is also fun to eat.
Here's Neal!
A kind local guide that brought me places and showed me all the good food! Taiwanese guys are nice and kind, just so you know LOLOL
Alrighty, another walkable distance food tour post from me. It's kinda fun to write! and I loved the feedback last time after my post '4 Places to eat 4 different DESSERTS in TAIPEI CITY within a walkable distance.'. So I do hope you enjoy this one as well!
Lots of lots of love,
Mo ❤
