I have been travelling in Taiwan for 2 weeks and today is actually my last day here. Besides the warm welcome from my friends and of couse, my fellow Steemians, one thing I love is for sure food! Chinese food is for sure one of the most famous cuisine around the world.. Taiwanese cuisine is something like that but slightly different I believe..
Weirdly delicious Taiwanese food..
I have been loving Taiwanese food so far but there're actually some certain types I like because of their weirdness.. I have talked already about Ai Yu, the fruit (natural jelly) I was obsessed with (still am). There's one more thing I found it so delicious and I like it not because of its taste but also the fact that I had never seen it elsewhere till my trip to Taiwan!
Taiwanese ice-cream spring rolls
Well, I for sure love ice-cream and spring rolls are totally one of my favourite snack. I have also tried a deep fried ice-cream but really, never before SPRING ROLLS WITH ICE-CREAM..
Housemade ice-cream spring rolls with a local Granny
Try ice-cream spring rolls in Chaozhou, Pingtung.
I went visit a friend who I knew a few years back, Beatrice, born and raised in Taiwan. Smart, Local, and pretty so the place she took me for an ice-cream.. I'm sure it was a good pick!
Yes! That was the name of the shop on Google maps! LOLOL No English so that's probably another way to tell, it's real LOCAL.
The shop was not so big and not that small.. The granny was there and yes, she was the one made it for us! We're lucky enough went there while they're making spring roll wrapping sheet.. did you see in the video? Interesting, ain't it ??
Here are the ingredient that might wow you..
- Freshly ground Peanuts
Oh my, I love peanuts a lot! I love to hate sugar but I can't avoid. This thing you see is a combination of 2 things.. then they use the wooden grinder (?? LOL) grind it freshly right before the make it a roll.
- Cilantro
One of the ingredients I'd never expected it to be put on my ice-cream but I did eat one with, in Taiwan. Turned out, it's pretty good!
- Ice-cream
You can't make ice-cream spring rolls without ice-cream, I suppose LOLOL. Of course not!! The flavors the granny had to offer were not that many but they all sounded fun to eat.. something like, black sesame, mango, peanut, etc.
Oh my.. doesn't it look soooo good??!
I went with black sesame and peanut for my first time. Then, the second one I got mango instead of peanut.. I personally think, it kinda goes well with the sweet ice-cream.. Not the sour ones so no no, no mango for me next time :D
Taiwanese Ice-cream spring roll is totally one of my favs now!
Now it's an ice-cream selfie time!
Thanks to Beatrice bringing me to this yummy ice-cream spring roll place and thanks to granny.. so cute and such a badass! :D hahaha
I know that a lot of travelers actually visit Taipei more than southern Taiwan. I have never seen much of this in Taipei but I found one in Ningxia Night Market so check that out if you'd like to try when in town!
