Hello; dear Steemers :) hope you all good & blessed.
Today i want to share with you about my visit to the "Mahendra Cave of Nepal."
Mahendra Cave is located near Pokhara in Kaski district. It is a large limestone cave below the ground. It is about 1100 metres above sea level. This thousands years old cave has formed in limestone which is overlaid by conglomerates.
I left my hotel room(hotel center lake) at early morning and reached to a nearby restaurant for a yummy breakfast. After that i move towards the bus stop.
I started my journey from the lakeside via the public bus, It was a cloudy day; when i were waiting for bus at bus stop; it's start raining lightly. The environment become cool and windy and adding a wow factor to my trip. first i went to the mahendrapol (which is the main marketing hub of pokhra district) by bus. From there i had to take another bus direct to the mahendra cave. I had to wait for several minutes in the bus untill it was full with passengers.
This bus drop me in front of the entrance gate of the mahendra cave; at the wide open area in front of main gate.
At the gate there is a ticket counter, I bought ticket and entered to the main gate. The first thing i saw inside was a beautiful garden full of colorful flowers.
This beautiful garden is situated over the cave on the ground surface. There are so many colorful flowers that attract me. I stopped there for taking some nice pictures of the flowers. The surrounding area of the cave is full of greenery.
This is a very calm and relaxing place, you can stay here for hours without getting bored.
There is a narrow way alongside the garden directly to the entrance of cave.
Many tourists posing for picture in front of cave entrance for their happy memories collection.
The cave entrance is wide enough.
The cave corridors are completely dark with continuously dripping of water from ceiling. You can sense the strange smell inside the cave which is a result of mixture of water, limestone, different minerals and continues humidity.
Due to the darkness, artificial lighting is provided inside the cave.
The locals come here regularly to worship the Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva. They put one flat stones on to another stones one by one and consider it as a holy ritual. They believe that by making this holy symbol they gain positive energy.
At the end part of cave there are statues of Lord shree ganesha, Lord Shiva and goddess parvati.
There is a deep big hole; look like a basement; where a holy rudrakhs garland is situated. The water droplets continuesly dropped down on it.
I stayed there few minutes and came out from cave to the garden.
For general Information!!
You can reaech to the cave from the Pokhara Airport within 30 minutes by taxi, one hour plus by public buses and two hours by foot.
It is few minutes shorter from the Prithvi Buspark via public transportation than from the airport .
The cave named after the former King, 'Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev' (11 June 1920 – 31 January 1972) was King of nepal from 1955 to 1972. This cave was discovered in the late 1950's by young shepherds.
I truly hope you like this.
