Mountains. I don't know about you, but they never cease to amaze me. Even if you've been on that same path for so many times, somehow there's always something new out there. Different weather, playful clouds, another shade of blue in the sky. This time the sky was clear, but due to the trails of a few airplanes flying at high altitude, everything became a lot more impressive.

The shots are taken in the Fagaras Mountains of Romania, above the Balea Lake area, on the trail to a 2507 meter peak called Vanatarea lui Buteanu - seen on the left side of the first shot, the most accessible summit above 2500 meters in the Romanian Carpathians.

Sure, it looks so damn inaccessible, but in reality the path is quite easy, with one exposed passage where you need to grab a few holds with your hands. Some people stop still when they see the passage and don't want to continue, but it's only there where the fun begins.

When you get to the top, the view is simply astonishing. Well, at least when you've got good weather and you're not blindly wandering through the clouds, trying to keep yourself warm and dry. Most of the times when I've been there, I had to walk through the wet cold clouds. But don't take that as bad luck. The more you hike those mountains, the more chances for bad weather, since for about two thirds of the year, the weather up there is shitty.

But sometimes, there are days like this, quite rare, in which the atmosphere is crystal clear and the visibility stretches all the way to the horizon. And it's in those days when you need to stop everything, quit working and hike up there, on the stairway to heaven, to get a breath of fresh air and clear your head.
