My Wednesday walk is in Bulgarian city Plovdiv.
With this post I wanted to join the #wednesdaywalk. Wednesday walk is an initiative of @tattoodjay which is collaborating with #makemesmile hosted by @elizacheng.
Plovdiv is the culture capital of Bulgaria. It is an ancient city built around 7 hills located in southern Bulgaria.
The city is older than Rome, Athens and Constantinople. He was a contemporary of ancient Troy.
The city has a rich cultural heritage. Мany nations who inhabited the city have left their marks.
On 5 September 2014, Plovdiv was selected as the Bulgarian host of the European Capital of Culture 2019.
The Forum of Roman Philippopolis
The forum was an administrative, commercial and religious center of the ancient Plovdiv.
There were held festivals, meetings, government affairs, debates. The town square occupies an area of 20 acres.
Investigations into Plovdiv's Central Square against Central Post Office continue. The bricks found during the excavations have incredible decoration with floral ornaments. The decoration is very rich and embossed. So far no such decoration has been found anywhere in Bulgaria.
One of the most recognisable landmarks of the Plovdiv among the many preserved buildings from Roman times is The Roman Stadium.
Plovdiv Roman Stadium
The Roman Stadium is among the largest and best preserved buildings from the time of the Ancient Rome in the Balkan peninsula.
The facility, approximately 240 m (790 ft) m long and 50 m wide, could seat up to 30000 spectators.
I want to show you and Plovdiv Drama Theatre which I visited early in the morning.
Plovdiv Drama Theatre
The first professional Bulgarian theatre, founded in 1881. It is a state repertory theatre, which manages three stages.
A great number of the most prominent Bulgarian actors and directors have begun their careers at the Plovdiv Drama Theatre.
Numerous prestigious national theatre awards are received in that place.
The back of the Drama Theater painted incredible graffiti during the 2013 Street Art Festival.
They are created under the theme "Art is forever". More information about these Street Art - soon at @myfreshes.
Between the two hills Dzambaz tepe and Texim tepe is located Plovdiv cathedral.
The Assumption of the Holy Virgin orthodox church
According to preserved information, even in the Middle Ages there was a beautiful and majestic church.
Close to Plovdiv cathedral is located -
Academy of Music and Dance Art
My walk continued through the beautiful streets of the old town.
I also went through the Yellow School.
The Yellow School
The Yellow School is the oldest building in Plovdiv used for its intended purpose.
It's called the Yellow School because of its unchanged facade color. This is the first newly built school building during the Renaissance.
Church Saint Nedelya
The temple dedicated to Saint Nedelya was built in the early XVII century.
My walk is over, but I can't finish it before I show you Kapana ("Тhe Trap") - the neighborhood that is said to be the throbbing heart of Plovdiv. More about Тhe Trap.
All photos are taken with my phone Huawei P20.
