Hi everyone,

sorry for the kind of irregular schedule but our child care facilities were closed and both our kids were at home while I still had to go to work. So life was kind of hectic and chaotic in the last couple of weeks. It should get better soon so that we can start with a new series of posts ๐Ÿ˜…

In this post, we want to share with you a spot on the world map that surprised us with its beautiful beaches and crystal clear water. We traveled to Agia Napa in the southern part of Cyprus back in 2019. We did not expect too much, as we more or less just wanted to relax for a week before our first child was scheduled to be born.

We started our trip with a regular bus trip from our hometown to Munich airport and while we were waiting at the airport lounge, the first foreboding signs were showing up. The flight got delayed and delayed again before finally 2h after regular departure our flight was canceled. Well, luckily Lufthansa was quite customer-friendly at that time and booked us an overnight stay at the Hilton close to the airport and a new flight the next day with even shorter flight times. It could have been worse.

Our hotel was situated a bit on the outskirts of the city, but we had about ~500m to the closest beach:

Our first trip to the closest beach highlighted quite thoroughly that Agia Napa is a quite common tourist destination in Cyprus and going to the closest beach is most often not the smartest idea if you are looking for relaxation:

So we spend some time looking at Google Maps and finally found a hidden coastal spot that is about 2km walk from the city:

The way there is quite peaceful although you should take care not to walk during midday or the sun will make you rue your decision as there is barely any shade:

The walk to the beach also takes you along the so-called "Bridge of Lovers" where you can take the obligatory tourist picture. ๐Ÿ˜‰

...and look back onto Agia Napa from afar:

And finally, you will find a little beach with peace and quiet and very clear water:

The city itself is quite touristy which means you can find countless restaurants catering to any taste and untold numbers of cocktail bars and nightclubs to spend your overflowing energy. The local food is quite good although you should like garlic if you want to dive into the true local cuisine.

Our favorite spot in the city is right in the center of town as you can capture very beautiful sunset views in combination with the city sign:

Time flies very fast while staying at the beach and our stay of ~1 week was over faster than we expected with such a relaxing atmosphere on our secret spot.

The funny final point about this vacation is, that we not only had canceled flights on arrival but also got our flight canceled on the way back and had to stay in a hotel close to the airport for 2 days which is kind of annoying as there was barely anything there.

But after we filed our official complaints to our airline carrier we got the guaranteed monetary compensation of the law which was around ~600 Euro per person and amounted to a nearly free vacation as this covered the flight and hotel costs of the whole week. As you can see there can be a fortune in misfortune ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿค—
