This blog shares highlights from an extraordinary adventure organized by Arara Tour Tour. This was a tour that lasted for thirty days. It was a comprehensive thirty-day exploration of five countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus countries of Georgia and Armenia. The tour is marked with breathtaking views and ancient architecture.
Central Asia: Countries of Silk Road
Our journey began in Central Asia, a region of history and traditions. The area is famous for being on the way to the Silk Road Tour. This was a long trading route from the East to the West. The impressions were really good, as we captured stunning landscapes and met good-natured locals.
It’s not possible to tell all the details and impressions I received from the tour to Central Asia. I was very excited by the nomadic traditions, rural areas, and vibrant bazaars offering national delicacies.
The Caucasus Region: Countries of Historic Beauty and Warmth
Exploration of the Caucasus Region started with Georgia. Ananuri Fortress provided the perfect introduction to the country’s rich history. Gudauri Resort amazed us with its year-round charm where many tourists were spotted who had come for skiing and hiking.
We had an interesting time hiking to the Gergeti Trinity Church. Here, on the top, we marveled at the beautiful view of the breathtaking Mount Kazbek. Wine enthusiasts were thrilled by our visits to Kakheti and other wineries where we tasted local vintages.
Crossing into Armenia, we entered a land of ancient monasteries and awe-inspiring landscapes. This is the cradle of Christianity and has a profound spiritual heritage. Our journey began in the lush Tavush region. It’s home to the medieval monasteries of Goshavank and Haghartsin.
Lake Sevan dazzled us with its crystal-clear waters. It’s called the “Blue Pearl”, due to the azure hues of the water. Here, we gazed at the striking Sevanavank Monastery. By the end of the day, Yerevan, Armenia’s vibrant capital, was waiting for us.
Echmiadzin left a deep impression on us. It’s the spiritual heart of the country. We were excited by the UNESCO-listed Echmiadzin Cathedral keeping the Holy Lance (a lance that was used by a Roman soldier to pierce Jesus Christ’s side), and a piece of Noah’s Arch. The following day began with a trip to Khor Virap. Another holiest site in Armenia, Khor Virap Monastery offers a breathtaking view of the Biblical Mount Ararat to the viewers. It’s the place where Gregory the Illuminator, the person who spread Christianity among Armenians, had been kept and thrown into a deep hole under the basement of the Monastery for 12 years. Our next stop was Noravank Monastery, the architect of which was Momik. Our journey to Geghard Monastery was a significant one, as we admired the view of the church complex, carved into the natural stones of the rock. Close to the Geghard Monastery, we visited the Hellenistic-style Garni Temple, which is the only remnant of pre-Christian Armenia.
Useful Tips
This is a long tour, so ensure your documents, including visas, are in order for multiple countries.
Take warm, comfortable clothing and walking shoes. These items are essential for exploring diverse itineraries, from deserts to mountains.
During the tour, try local food. It includes hearty dishes and exquisite wine.
You can encounter unexpected delays at border crossings. Stay flexible during this part of the adventure.
Connect with locals communicating in their mother tongue. So, you need to learn basic expressions.
Big cities of these countries generally accept cards. But you may face difficulties in rural areas that often rely on cash. Have some local currency on hand.
My big thanks to Arara Tour for organizing luxury tours in Armenia, Central Asia, Caucasus, and beyond.
