This was an unexpected find on my typical morning commute in downtown Chicago. Happy #wednesday walk by @tattoodjay
There were monarch larvae growing in the planters along the riverwalk. Maybe I can find other larvae too, these monarchs stand out enough to notice easily from a distance. I'll keep an eye out for their crysalis they should be forming soon.
Other commuters were wondering what I was so interested in while they sped off to work.
Then this guy flew by and landed on some orange milkweed.
It let me get even closer for a better shot.
It was too busy feeding off the milkweed to care about me taking photos. After a while living in the city it probably got used to humans rushing around while typing on their phones or trying to sneak in some skateboarding.
A few steps away the sun was hiding behind this cluster of buildings.
Later on I reached the spot where a goose and other critters like to hang out @kansuze right now the hibiscus are blooming.
I found a cold red dragonfly in the shade. Last week I found a cold red admiral here in this same spot @whatisnew maybe all the red insects stop here to hide out in the red hibiscus. https://steemit.com/butterflyday/@sketch.and.jam/butterflyday-red-admiral-zkildzzz
The shade from the other skyscrapers cools them down making them docile enough to pick up.
Once I put it in the sun it warmed up a bit and finally flew off.
Later by a construction site near the Trump building I found this guy, though he was too warmed up and flew away when I tried to pick him up.
Thankfully I didn't take the water taxi this time and got a nice dose of nature in the city.
