For this #wednesdaywall by @tattoodjay I have a few shots of the Grass River Natural Area near Traverse City, Michigan.
This is a pretty peaceful walk with lots of things to see along the way.
Many of the trails actually cross over marshy areas of the grass river. There are well built bouncy wood walkways to cross over these areas.
Given the humidity and dark forest areas many mushrooms grow along the side of the path. Someone carved a morel mushroom out of a stump on the side of the walkway. I didn't see any morels as its not the season but i found many other shrooms.
Here is a baby amanita muscaria happy #fungifriday @ewkaw @borjan Checkout the shadow on this shroom @melinda010100
Here's the same mushroom in the shade. These guys are poisonous and hallucinogenic but have a nice red iconic color.
I also found these eyelash cup fungi. These are really tiny so its easy to overlook them.
Here was a tiny little orange mushroom i am not sure what type it is. It was growing next to the amanita so maybe it is an amanita as well.
I found these bedraggled looking orange mushrooms. They kind of remind me of chantrelles but the gills weren't quite right.
Here are the gills these may be a type of yellowfoot chantrelle. Unfortunately i didn't find enough of these for harvesting.
Here's another colorful mushroom I found that I couldn't identify.
Here's a side view of the strange mushroom.
I found another one of the same type that was tipped over. This is what the gill pattern looks like. If i had to guess it would be a type of russula mushroom though russula gills are usually white and not as spaced apart as these.
The pathway was lush with these ferns the whole way.
Wild roses grew along the edges as well.
Many types of insects like this butterfly were sitting peacefully along the sides of the trail. @whatisnew
Here's some hoof fungi i found on a tipped over tree. The latin name is Fomes fomentarius, this fungi is a parasite to living trees and once it finally kills the tree it continues to decompose the rest of the tree.
There was a little side fairy trail we found where kids decorated little areas along the path.
Here's a stick structure with some painted stones.
A basket pinecone bird thingy that was pretty camouflage.
Someone also placed these shells on a cut stump to add a nice spiral pattern to the trail.
To end this #wednesdaywalk and #fungifriday here's a bit of orange milkweed. This stuff is a great magnet for butterflies.
