When I have some free time from my work, I take the opportunity to visit some of my friends from the university, in this case I went to visit Anna, a friend with whom I spent the first years of my studies in Bologna and she has wanted to let me discover this beautiful medieval village called Varzi and is practically immersed in the Oltrepò Pavese.
Like so many medieval villages that I have already visited in my life, he too has beautiful streets where you immerse yourself in these places and you feel like you are going back in time.
In fact, she told me that in the last weekend of July in this village the medieval days are organized, a kind of medieval re-enactment where costumed extras take you back in time
Surely the most interesting points of the village are the castle which is currently a private residence and has been inherited over time by the Malaspina family and also the beautiful actor of Porta Sottana who I know today right on the main street where once the main life of the village took place.
I really took a nice walk inside the village and I found many historic buildings in excellent condition, among other things, there were very few people and also very few tourists and probably because this place is not as well known for tourism as the neighbor village of Bobbio.
That day we did not visit the castle and I can't tell you exactly how much you pay in what hours it is open also because it is currently a private residence so it will certainly have very limited hours but in any case it is also nice to take a simple walk through the streets of the town.
Also from the outside also because it was closed, we saw the church of the friars convent because near the center there are some small buildings where this convent is.
I was impressed by the characteristic arcades because they are really beautiful and really special but above all they were recovered to place under tables for typical bars or restaurants and I must say that even if it was so hot it was really cool.
