Don't leave during a storm
The storm couldn't stop me from going out and grab my daily coffee. But now the day after I think it should have.
In all honesty here in London it was not too scary, at least not in the area that I live, London is huge.
But... and this is the important part of this message.
We are never safe.
One of the causalities and one of the deaths in London was just minutes away from this Coffee shop. This is the lesson to take, it can happen to you.
Now that we got this out of the way, I have to say that visiting the Food Room and being in such a cosy space, while the World outside was being destroyed, it was very nice.
Small but cosy
I have walked by this place at least a couple of times and I was always curious to get in, but also because it looked so small and usually was always quite full (and that is not difficult) I have always skip it and went somewhere else. But as I said we had Storm Eunice bothering us for a couple of days, so this time around there was not so many people on the streets and I thought it would be a good day to go in and see what is the fuss around this place.
If you don't like really small spaces and have everyone on top of you, this is not the place for you.
But on the other hand if you like to feel that you just entered someone's kitchen and you are about to sit and be surrounded by friends in a family environment, that is quite warm and cosy, this is the ideal place.
Feels like you are home
The decoration is very warm and "home like". It is almost like you are in someone's house. That is the good part about it. I just came in because I actually had to leave the house to buy some groceries and then decided to stop for a quick coffee. I also had to make it a quick visit since they were about to close and I don't like to be that one customer that is there until the last minute.
The service was really nice, the coffee was very tasty and as I said before the environment and atmosphere was super familiar.
I wanted to grab a slice of cake but really didn't wanted to be in a hurry so I have decided not to, but the cakes really looked delicious and homemade (I might be wrong about that, don't quote me on this)
Local favourites
A couple of customers came in and out while I was there and I can tell that this is a locals favourites for sure. By the interactions between the person on the shop and the customers I could tell that they had a relationship and for sure they come to the place frequently, I could tell that the lady knew everyone coming in and they were close.
Many times in places like this, the "new" customers that are visiting might feel a little awkward and weird because it is such a tiny space but I have to say that was not the case and I felt very comfortable.
I personally don't like spaces as small as this one and probably won't be returning very often to the Food Room, but I will be coming back again. Just not on a daily basis. I got curious about the chocolate tart and I need to try that.
