Cutty Sark is better in the Summer Time

The Cutty Sark by itself might not be very popular with the tourists, but something that is very popular is the Greenwich Meridian. And the best route to get there will take you to the Cutty Sark.

That's why, specially during the Summer season this area is always full and very alive. Tourists discover the Cutty Sark by chance and in a lot of cases they fall in love with the area.

So if you are on your way to Greenwich Park or to see the Greenwich observatory, as soon as you get out of the DLR in Cutty Sark, instead of heading directly to the park, explore a little bit around. Because it is a very nice area to just walk around. From the Cutty Sark itself to the small Greenwich Market and all the activities that happen during the summer times.

Something else that makes this a busy area when the sun is out, is the fact that when the sun is out, this area is for sure one of the favourites for the Londoners, so not only expect to see a lot of tourists around but also a lot of locals.

The Greenwich University that you can see almost straight away when you come out of the station is another reason for the area to be always alive.

As you can see these visit and these photos were taken in a sunny, warm day and as I told you, it is busy and there's a lot happening.

Something great about the place on these days is the fact that there are a lot of places where you can get some street food and sit enjoying it with a great vibe all around you.

Even just from the outside, you can have a great and beautiful view of the Cutty Sark. But in case you want to learn a little bit more and even see it from the inside, you can get yourself a ticket to see it more in detail.

Cutty Sark history

The Cutty is really cool old ship that’s parked up in Greenwich, London. Was built way back in 1869 in Scotland and was one of the last tea clippers to be built. She was designed to be super speedy for the China tea run.

After a few years, she switched from tea to wool from Australia, and let me tell you, she was fast. Held the record time to Britain for ten years! In 1895, she was sold to a Portuguese company and renamed Ferreira. She kept on as a cargo ship until 1922 when a retired sea captain bought her and used her as a training ship.

This is just a short resume about the history of this ship.

If that is something the tourists love when in London and that kind of goes with the architecture and the vibes of an "older" city, are fair and the traditional carrousel.

So you might see a lot of these, specially during the warmer seasons, all over the areas that are more touristic.

The Cutty Sark, Greenwich University and Greenwich Park are just by the river and also allow you to enjoy some great views of the city, both here from the bottom by the Cutty Sark but specially from the top of Greenwich Park. That is a view that for sure it is really worth it.

One thing I can tell you, don't expect for the river to be looking pristine, the majority of the year, no matter what, the water in the Thames is always very murky.

It is really cool to see such an old ship with so much history standing there. Just thinking and imagining everything that have been living in the ship and it's journeys, so interesting.

There are some gardens and some museums inside the Greenwich University. And that is also a great are to go for a walk when you are there. There is nothing to lose and the architecture it is pretty cool.

It doesn't feel like you are in an University that's for sure.

Just look how beautiful is this view from the University. Plenty of space for you to have a relaxed break in your busy day walking around the city.

This specific place is very popular in Hollywood movies. You have seen it being completely destroying in movies likes Thor: The Dark World or also Les Miserables. Just to name a couple I remember by head.

This are the scenes:

Were you able to make the connection before. Well now you know. And if you are a movie buff and like to visit places where certain movies are made. Make your research. Because as I told you, this is a very popular place to appear in movies and these are just only 2 examples it came to my mind.

In resume, the Cutty Sark is for sure a place that it should be on your list of places to visit when in London, specially if you are visiting on the warmer seasons.

In all honesty, during the winter time, the area is not as alive and nice to visit, because it is way more empty and there is not as much happening. But still, even then, it might be good to visit, but maybe just a quick walk around.

This is still one of my favourite places to go whenever the sun is out. I can't get enough of it.
