Everywhere I've been on this planet, some city walls have been splattered with lots of colors.
This is the third time I've come to Costa Rica, but really my first time hanging put in San Jose.
We were here for three days because my family had been in the country. They were on their way out and a friend was supposed to meet us here to go to Rancho Mastatal together.
Like I said in my last Costa Rica post, this first set of murals comes from el barrio escalante where we ate a wonderful farm to table lunch, which I highly recommend if you have time to go. The place is called Al Mercat and you're a bit tired of rice and beens, treat yourself to some really refreshing food!
Sometimes, going to a restaurant with a four year old can be a little tricky. He gets restless from time to time, so I took him on a walk around the neighborhood we were in. He played a game of reading the numbers painted on the ground, meant to be parking spot numbers, I think.
Here are the murals and the awesome archway fabricated out of all sorts of kitchen goods from our walk:
Once my family left, one went home back in New York's cold weather 😉 and the other to a wellness retreat called Pacha-Mama (while we're talking about food, my sister told us this place has both really excellent fresh food for the belly but also for your mind and body... primary and secondary food!). We went to our typical backpackers' hostel type of place... The difference of atmospheres between a fancy hotel and these hostels is so enormous. Ok so you can't expect to sleep all that well, with a party vibes and all, but people interact a lot more and get to know eachother. The travel stories from newbies and old dogs are endless and we just feel so much more comfortable in a hostel in general. You don't feel lile you have to be all proper and quiet.
This next set of murals is from our walk from the hostel to the center of town:
That's all for now, we have just left San Jose, this will be our boy's first experience in a Latin American bus!!! Very exciting.
Our friend Sabrina missed her flight to San Jose, but it was time for us to leave as we had to make a reservation to stay at the farm we wanted to check out. We'll see her there tomorrow!
They told us that there is no internet there so please be patient and I'll be writting again soon.
Untill next time... PURA VIDA!
