The Markuskreuz-Runde is one of four "Tut gut!" hiking trails in the market community Statzendorf in Lower Austria's Fladnitztal.
The hiking trail starts at the municipal office that is actually located in Absdorf, a catastral community of Statzendorf.
After crossing a stream called "Anzenbach" you come to Statzendorf.
There you turn right into the L100 main road.
On your left side you see the "Wegkapelle", a wayside shrine built in the first half of the 19th century.
On your right side you see a mine trolley that reminds of the long history of mining in Statzendorf. The last lignite mines in Statzendorf closed in the 1940s, in the neighbouring villages in the 1960s. Although this is not so long ago, many people forgot of that part of local history.
Right before the war memorial you turn left into the Friedhofweg.
Right after the consecration hall you turn right into a street called "Am Schauerberg".
On your right side you have a wonderful view on the parish church that is dedicated to Saint Mark.
At the end of the street you turn left and walk up the Schauerberg. Now you can already sea the two wind turbines.
The wind turbines have a maximum power of 1,800 kWp and are part of the wind park "Hoher Kölbling, Kleinhain und Schauerberg", that have a total of 13 wind turbines and belong to EVN Naturkraft. More data on the two wind turbines can be found here!
Right before the right wind turbine you have to turn left…
and walk towards the other wind turbine.
Behind the wind turbine you have to turn left.
On the descend you have a wonderful outlook on Statzendorf and the neighbouring villages.
Right before the wood you turn right. But I recommend to make a small detour to the…
Markuskreuz
This cross was supposed to be erected on the peak of Schauerberg. I don't know the exact reason why, but finally it was erected on this place that is a traditional place for midsummer celebration.
Anyway, you have a great outlook here as well.
After enjoying the great view, you walk back alongside the forest edge.
Then you turn left in to the Kellergasse and a little bit later in the street "Am Schauerberg".
At the consecration hall you turn right into the Friedhofsweg.
At the end of Friedhofsweg you turn right into the L100 main road.
Then you turn left into the Dorfstraße,…
and finally cross the Anzenbach, leave Statzendorf, come to Absdorf and reach the municipal office.
