Alanya Museums
There are quite a few museums in Alanya.
Today, I want to introduce the Archaeological Alanya Muzesi.
One would not expect such an interesting museum in such a small town. This is what we all normally think. So make sure you pay a visit here when you get to Alanya.
How To Get to Archaeological Muzesi
The museum is locatd in the center of Alanya on İsmet Hilmi Balcı street.
You can just take the city bus to get to the center. It is right opposite the Tourist Information Office, near Damlataş Cave and Cleopatra Beach.
Archaeological Garden
The Archaeological Museum in Alanya has a very nice garden. It started operating since 1967 for visiting tourists.
The entrance to the Archaeological Park is quite impressive
There is an outdoor garden where you find a lot of interesting artifacts.
You will find a lot of archaeological digs dating back to Romans times.
There are a lot of Roman tombs found in the garden.
Look at the sculptures that are engraved on the tombs! They tell the story of the life of the deceased person.
Inside the Museum
The indoor museum was completely renovated in 2012 and is now a thoroughly equipped with modern facility.
Inside the museum, there are two sections: One section displays archaeological artifacts while the other section displays ethnographic artifacts.
Make sure you go to both sections as they are very interesting looking at the ancient culture during the Hellenistic, Romans and Byzantine times.
There are 2 floors so it will take an afternoon to visit all the rooms.
Hercules (Herakles) Statue
The most important artifact to visit is the discovery of the statue of Herakles.
This statue was found actually found in Alanya.
This actually has become the big symbol of Alanya's archaeological museum as you don't find it elsewhere.
The statue of Herakles is from the 2nd Century A.D.
The entire room displays his works.
Enjoy
