A Tourist site: Masoleum of Daniel (Makam Danyel Camii)
This is one of the big tourist site in Tarsus.
You must make an effort to come to see this beautiful site as it commemorates the prophet Daniel who lived and died here in Tarsus.
How to get there
Follow the city map that you see in almost every corner of the main streets of Tarsus
It is located at Makam Meydani, Adana Caddesi.
Complex with mosque and tomb of Daniel
The entrance is huge with a garden in the front.
There are descriptions to help tourist to understand the mosque complex.
The mosque itself is very impressive with all the lightings that look like a modern building on the outside.
Inside, you will find a lot of archaeological diggings that were found on this actual site.
There are arches of the Roman bridges that were excavated to date back to 1st Century A.D.
All this is fascinating because the digs are well preserved.
There are 2 floors of interesting artifacts you can visit.
Make sure you walk the stairs to see the upper floor also to see the tomb dig of Daniel.
This is a must visit landmark in Tarsus.
The ruins and the grave of Daneil are done with a lot of archaeological research that this site has only been opened to the public in the last 10 years.
It is now a well restored antique place which is very unique by itself because of having a mosque built alongside the site.
So now, this landmark not only attracts tourists but that it has become a beloved place for locals to visit because of the prayer place in the mosque.
When we were here, we saw a lot of locals coming in there to pray.
