We sat here to enjoy the gentle breeze as we watch the waves crashing in. This is paradise.
We spent the afternoon here to enjoy the sun and the sounds of the sea. We even managed to catch a short swim.
Afterwards, we walked closer to the windmills where there are lots of outside restaurants lining the shore. Here, you can watch the sunset peeping through the windmills.
Mykonos actually has 16 windmills. The five that you see in front of you are the most famous ones. They were built by the Venetians in the 16th Century as at that time, there was an important trade route between Venice and the Eastern Mediterranean cities. This was vital to the economy of Mykonos. Cargoes would be unloaded here for the windmills to turn the grain in to flour.

You can tell that Mykonos was the center of trade as they are all lined up at the port. Notice that they are all built with the same kind of cylindrical design with cone roofs. Each has small windows with whitewashed walls.
It is great that we can see these surviving windmills in Mykonos as all the other windmills in the other islands are mostly in ruin. The islanders on Mykonos restored these great windmills for tourists and some small ones are even converted to use as homes.
