Barinas is a state with homonymous capital city, located to the southwest of Venezuela, which occupies two ecoregions, part of the Western Plains and part of the Andean Piedmont, belonging to the Sierra Nevada National Park. Its inhabitants are characterized by being very warm and friendly people, always cheerful and willing to share what they have with others.
What catches my attention the most is Barinas’ variety of climates and landscapes, since it has mountains, llanos (plains) and countless rivers such as La Barinesa, Santo Domingo, El Paguey, Canagua, El Masparro reservoir, among others; where you can practice water sports and fishing.
Its plains comprise wide pastures and savannas, with palm trees, yellow ipes, rosy trumpet trees, rain trees, ceibas and others; while in the area of the piedmont towards the Andean mountain range you can find foothill forests, with needle bushes and mahogany trees.
Among the most representative villages of Barinas are Barinitas, Altamira de Cáceres and Calderas, where you can do several activities such as camping and mountain biking, as well as bird watching. This region is an important area of coffee and cocoa cultivation, and has a pleasant humid forest climate. To the east, in San Silvestre village the local festivities are celebrated at Christmas, with the traditional rodeo; this practice represents a regional heritage.
In the center of Barinas city we can also visit many interesting places such as the House of Culture, El Marqués Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Botanical Garden of the Ezequiel Zamora National University, La Carolina Football Stadium, the Alberto Arvelo Torrealba Museum, Los Trujillanos drive and many more.
Barinas also has a great gastronomy with delicious dishes such as The Picadillo soup, fried Coporo fish, Capybara pisillo, Corn pancakes with cheese and fried pork, accompanied by piloncillo and lemon juice, as well as typical sweets, including Papaya sweet, Cabello de Angel sweet, Nut sweet and Rice pudding.
