University of Dhaka- Bangladesh, my beloved campus. This place is directly connected to our liberation war. This campus, it's cafeteria, institute building everything is a part of the history. This banyan tree is in the middle of the campus and as like other parts of the campus, this tree is also very connected with our liberation war.
I had the chance to visit this place again after a while on the last 16th of December. The day was our Victory day and National holiday.
Why this tree is Historical?
This is the first place where we first lift our national flag during 1971. On 2 March 1971, this initial version of the flag was hoisted in Bangladesh for the first time at Dhaka University under this Banyan tree. During that time, A. S. M. Abdur Rab was the Vice President of Dhaka University Students' Union (DUCSU) and he hoisted the flag by the direction of our National Leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. We celebrate 2nd March as our Flag Hoisting Day every year under this tree.
People love to wear a green and red-colored dress to symbolize our flag color. Many people come to visit this place, to sit there, enjoy the shade of the huge tree and relax for a while.
There is an open space around the tree. The whole area is full of greenery and beautifully decorated.
The best thing is you will get to see some metal plates attached to the tree are, where the history of this tree, it's connection to the liberation war is written in Bangla language.
The tree is still young, green and beautiful. You will get to see thousand of birds and some squirrels in the tree. The natural art made by the tree leaves looks very attractive to me.
It's a place for student's hangout. This place made me nostalgic. When I was a student there, I don't know how many uncountable hours we spend under the tree, gossiping, relaxing and even studding!
You can include University of Dhaka campus in your must visit list. And don't forget to have a look at this banyan tree. I hope you like my captures.
