Every year, as spring gives way to early summer, our quaint town becomes the epicenter of a delightful celebration that draws visitors from far and wide. The Feira da Regueifa e do Biscoito & Mercado Oitocentista is more than just a festival, it is a vibrant tribute to our rich cultural heritage, culinary traditions and the timeless charm.

This year, from May 30 to June 2, our streets will once again buzz with the joyous sounds of music, laughter and the enticing aroma of freshly baked regueifa and biscoitos.

As the festival dates approach, the entire town undergoes a magical transformation. The preparations begin in advance, with townsfolk and volunteers working tirelessly to recreate the authentic atmosphere of a century market.

Stalls and tents are set up along the main square, draped in burlap and adorned with antique wares, evoking the charm of a bygone era. Banners and flags flutter in the gentle breeze, their vibrant colours adding to the festive ambiance.

Even though the festival officially runs from May 30 to June 2, the days leading up to it are filled with a flurry of activity. These are the moments captured in the photographs we share with you now glimpses of the meticulous preparations that bring this celebration.

At the heart of the Feira da Regueifa are the iconic regueifa and biscoito. These traditional baked goods are more than just treats, they are symbols of our town heritage. The regueifa, a soft and slightly sweet bread, and the biscoito, a crisp and flavorful biscuit, have been beloved staples for generations.

In the days leading up to the festival, local bakeries work around the clock to produce these delicacies in large quantities. The aroma of baking bread and biscuits fills the air, creating an irresistible invitation to passersby.

Families gather to share recipes that have been handed down through the ages, ensuring that each batch captures the authentic taste of our tradition.

May 30 dawned bright and warm, setting the perfect stage for the festival opening day. The early summer sun bathed the town in a golden glow, and the sky remained clear and blue, promising a day of uninterrupted celebration.

The official opening ceremony commenced with a parade featuring townsfolk dressed in period costumes. Their attire, meticulously crafted, transported onlookers back in time.

The parade was a visual feast with participants showcasing everything from elegant dresses and bonnets to rustic farmer garb. Accompanied by the lively tunes of traditional folk music, the procession wound its way through the town, drawing cheers and applause from the crowd.
