Finally after a while I return to write here in this community on Sunday I took part in a group outing together with the blood donors from my village and we went to Lake Orta where there is the Island of San Giulio an island inside a monastery that you can visit.
To reach this island, the only way is to use a boat that leaves from the village of Orta and practically takes about 1 km to reach this beautiful island in a few minutes.
In fact that's what we did and fortunately since we were so many people they even gave us a discount on the ticket price
if not, there is always the possibility for those with more money to hire a boat, which costs is the beauty of €50 for two hours I think
The trip was a lot of fun, however, the peculiarity of this island is that according to an ancient legend it was a place inhabited only by snakes and monsters, and when St Juliusvi landed he founded his church and turned the island into a place to spread religion and the gospel.
In fact, the first thing you will find as soon as you disembark on the island is the beautiful Romanesque basilica dedicated to San Giulio, which is accessed via the Via del Silencio (Silence Street) and where the cloistered nuns still live and bake the famous bread that is then sold to the faithful, which is called San Giulio's bread.
Unfortunately, the photos I took inside the Basilica came out badly precisely because there is absolutely no sunlight filtering in. It is a place that put me a little bit in fear is precisely because it is so dark and eerie.
my visit to the island ended there and then I went back to the bus to return home however the thing I recommend is also to visit the other villages around the lake which unfortunately due to time constraints we did not manage to visit
