Are you planning on going on vacation this year, but worried you might spend too much while on vacation? There are a number of ways to save money while travelling. In fact, you can save much just on transport.
Here are ways to save some bucks on transportation while on vacation.
Travel Tip #1: Make sure to book your plane ticket months ahead
You can save a lot of money just by booking your plane ticket ahead of time. In fact the further you book your flight from your travel date, the more money you save. They also say that booking your flight schedules Tuesdays to Thursdays are the cheapest by air.
Travel Tip #2: Consider alternate airports
Most countries have multiple airports. Travelers say that flying into a different airport can actually save you hundreds of dollars per ticket on a flight. So find out if there are other airports where you're going, and check if the ticket price going to that destination will save you some money.
Travel Tip #3: Don't drive to the airport
Instead of bringing your car and paying for parking at the airport, save money by taking the public transportation instead. Find out ahead of time how to get to the airport via the public transportation. In the Philippines, a jeepney ride's fare will cost you less than a dollar than paying your Uber ride as much as $10. That's huge savings.
Travel Tip #4: Bring only your carry on bag
I usually just bring one bag during my travel. I own a backpack and everything I need is in there. Carrying an additional bag during the trip is so much a hassle, they're heavy, and the airport will charge me a fortune for checked baggage.
Travel Tip #5: Read the fine prints of your ticket
Watch out for those fuel surcharges, and airport taxes. These are sometimes not included in the price of ticket, and you don't want to get shocked once the airport asks you to pay for airport taxes.
Travel Tip #6: Book tour packages if possible
Most tours will include the flight, the hotel, and the transportation. You'll definitely save a lot more if you buy a package that has all these included. Not only do you avoid the hassle that comes with the Do-it-yourself travel planning, you also get a really great deal and savings. So leave everything to your tour coordinator.
Travel Tip #7: Collect and redeem your air miles
Air miles can all add up to a big savings on your next vacation as long as there are no high fees for booking. Charges will usually be highest for last-minute travel, such as less than two weeks prior to departure. Best to own a credit card that lets you earn travel miles too.
Travel Tip #8: Go in the off season
Avoid flying at the height of the holiday and summer. Try spring and fall getaways instead. In the Philippines, it is best to travel in October and late November to avoid the crowd, and the weather is still fine. Never travel during the long holidays, unless you've booked your tickets months ahead.
Travel Tip #9: Travel by bus
Get bus passes. These are popular in Europe and other locations where people like to see the sights by bus. You could get a pass offering unlimited travel for 7 days, for example. Compare the price of the pass with the individual prices of the tickets between all the destinations you want to visit.
Travel Tip #10: Travel by train
Get train passes. As with bus passes, these can be a really cheap way to see Europe and the rest of the world. Note that some train systems will have first, second and perhaps even third-class options. The latter should be the cheapest, and reasonably clean and comfortable in most cases.
Travel Tip #11: Book a cheap cruise
A cruise is your transportation and hotel all rolled into one. All you have to do is unpack once and relax. Before booking, check out each destination carefully to make sure there will be enough to do. Some will stop at interesting destinations, while others will spend most of their time off the shore of their own company-owned island for people to do water sports and other activities.
Look for last-minute deals and packages if you don’t live at a cruise shop port of call and have to fly to get to your ship.
Travel Tip #12: Consider group travel
Traveling with a group, usually 4 to 10 people, can really cut down on expenses. Larger groups can get the best rates if they plan ahead.
That's it, folks. Hope my travel tips will help you save on your travel budget. Until next time.
Travel safely, and have loads of fun.
