Huge caterpillars and the dangerous journey to Playa Laguna

Huge caterpillars and the dangerous journey to Playa Laguna

April 2022 · 3 min read · Puerto Plata

Today I would like to show you some nice photos and impressions from yesterday. all of you who read my blog regularly know that I love to ride my scooter through the area, that's what we did yesterday.

I'm still in Sosua, we wanted to check out a new beach, "Laguna Beach"

Instead of going to the more commercial spots in Sosua, we drove to the residential areas. There was a big difference between the houses, some were for the (I assume) locals. Run-down, with often aluminum roof plates. In stark comparison the gated areas had beautiful villas with ocean views.

While trying to get to the new Laguna Beach, we had to drive on unfinished dirt roads, with giant potholes, and due to the heavy rain the night before sometimes we had to drive through yards of water. On our scooter :D

On the way there, I saw a big neon yellow glowing caterpillar on the wall, we took a break and took a close look at it.

here you can see the small tail :D

The caterpillar was really very conspicuous black neon yellow striped with a red head and red legs.....beautiful and a bit disgusting at the same time

and funny because she had a small tail like a teckel.

so colorful because it is poisonous and warns its predators

I did a bit of research on this colorful caterpillar, it will eventually become a swarmer...which belongs to the butterflies...but then the beautiful caterpillar has completely lost its eye-catching color, but he can be very large up to 17cm wingspan :O

A small path led to the beach, I wanted to film the first impression of it,

but didn't look at the path and stumbled really stupidly.

but see for yourself.....

looks worse than it is ;) after a little foot cooling in the sea it went again

dangerous way to the beach ;)

But the beach was very nice... It was pretty empty that day, I don't know if that's always the case. A wide, wide beach, clear water, but pretty wild water, big waves, ideal for surfing

surrounded on one side by rocky, green coast, beautiful !

After this mini trip, we drove back home and let the evening end with a beer and a few rounds of Monopoly Bit, the card version of the game.

I can only recommend it and it's more fun than the normal Monopoly!

If you want to know more about my travels, read my other reports, there I will tell you how I currently live and what else I have experienced ;)

Love Anna
