The Volcan Nevado de Colima National Park is a federally protected natural area located on the borders of the states of Jalisco and Colima, two states in the central Pacific region of Mexico.
This park is made up of the Volcan de Fuego and the Nevado de Colima volcanoes. Interestingly, it is an active volcano closely monitored by various government institutions. Eruptions from this volcano are considered explosive and pose a danger to the population. This volcano is classified as the most dangerous in Mexico and is therefore highly monitored.
The "Nevado de Colima Volcano" National Park is a Mexican natural park located on the borders of the states of Jalisco (89%) and Colima (11%). The park is home to the Colima Volcano, also known as the Volcan de Fuego, and the Nevado de Colima volcano, from which it takes its name. By decree of the Mexican government, it was declared a national park on September 5, 1936. It covers a total area of 9,375 hectares and is administered by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of the state of Jalisco. The park has a security checkpoint, parking lots, cabins, and a lodge. -Wikipedia
To reach the Nevado de Colima Volcano National Park, you must take a guided tour or drive your own vehicle. If you choose the latter, it is recommended that your vehicle be prepared for adverse conditions, unstable, and uneven terrain. Therefore, I recommend off-road vehicles, as well as a driver with experience on difficult roads. The climb is full of sharp turns, gorges, and potholes. Since the roads are dirt, mud can be a factor during the rainy season.
The climb takes several hours, so you need to go early. The park entrance fee applies, but it's quite accessible. Keep in mind that you should bring enough water and food. The park base sells some items, but don't be overconfident. It's also important to remember that pets are not allowed, and at one point you must leave your vehicle and continue on foot. It's a mountaintop. Wear thermal climbing clothing; the winds are very cold. Comfortable shoes with good traction. I recommend gloves and sunglasses, as well as a hat, balaclava, or cap.
It's also important to know that the basic route is walking, but the climbs are steep. From one point onward, climbing gear is required to continue, but it's not necessary to reach the summit. I do recommend remembering that every step forward is a step back. It's very difficult to climb, but the views are well worth it, and the satisfaction of reaching the top is fantastic.
Before embarking on this adventure, I recommend checking the official website of the Nevado de Colima Volcano National Park, the official file of the Nevado de Colima Volcano in the Information System, Monitoring and Evaluation for the Conservation of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas and the official Facebook page of the Nevado de Colima Volcano National Park which were extremely useful to me when organizing my excursion.
