I was yesterday like Indiana Jones :)
Sundays are just perfect to go with the family out of the town and enjoying nature.
This was exactly the case yesterday, only 40 minutes drive from the center of Zagreb my family and I found ourselves in a completely different world, greenery, mountains and forest.
As in fairy tales we wandered through woods and forest paths, we felt like real mountaineers:)
Although I have to admit I'm not in the best shape, two hours of climbing at "slightly different air" I did without any problems, in fact, I enjoyed it and did not feel any exertion.
In this two hours, we didn't saw any human and this gave us feel like real explorers.
We were soon rewarded with the discovery of a forgotten fortress for which we did not know it was even there.
Forest and inaccessible paths did a great job keeping it from passers and the whole building was covered in greenery so it was really hard to find it.
When we first saw her, we had the feeling that nobody was here for centuries, this is of course not true but the children liked the story that we are the first people here after a long time very much :)
Today I did a small research like all explorers do :) about the place. I found out
that the fort was called Cesargrad and learned sometinteresting facts about her history and how it once looked.
source + my photoshop edit :)
According to tradition, the Cesargrad fort built the Templars, a knightly order that was established in 1119 to protect pilgrims on their way to Jesus' grave in the Holy Land.
Cesargrad is located at an altitude of 471 meters above sea level and from today's ruins and one of the windows I managed to capture this idyllic view of the valley.
I would like to conclude this our adventure with advice to all travelers and explorers :
The most beautiful places are often not found in tourist maps and guides, wander freely and who knows what you can discover, there is a big chance that you will be pleasantly surprised
