Magic

Untermyer Gardens is arguably the best place to experience sunset in the Lower Hudson Valley.

Visiting New York City anytime soon? Untermyer Gardens, formerly known as Greystone, is a quick 45 minute ride away and well worth an afternoon of your time. If you have a thing for botanical gardens, add Untermyer to your NYC bucket list! Plan to take the Metro-North from Grand Central Station up to nearby Yonkers. From Greystone Station, the garden entrance is a jaunty 20 minute walk or less than 5 minutes by taxi or Uber.

No matter what time of day you visit, the way the light winds its way through the walled garden is breathtaking! If you can make it to the top of the The Vista by golden hour, you're in for a treat. 🌅

Being a public park, entry to Untermyer Gardens is completely free of charge. The garden is open year-round, and weekends can be busy, especially from spring through the summer months. I'm partial to the flowers growing in the walled garden from July to early September. Late afternoon within the walled garden is a dreamy scene, and you'll be treated to some delightful views accented by monarch butterflies flitting from bloom to bloom.

Mayhem

The garden has an interesting history tinted with hints of the salacious. An enigmatic, esoteric vibe pervades the immaculately maintained grounds, and so it's no wonder Untermyer Garden has been the site of Atlas Obscura's annual Great Forgotten Garden Party for three years running.

Though this post is freshly steemed, I've previously written about Untermyer Garden on my travel blog, and this post includes photos I've previously published here, here, and via my social media profiles.
