Today I'm telling you about my little trip today to the beautiful town of Orsigna, home of the famous writer and journalist Tiziano Terzani who lived his last years here frugally without electricity and devoted himself to spirituality. Orsigna is on the border between Tuscany and Emilia and is a magnificent valley between the mountains, full of greenery, Terzani was a great character, a free spirit and in this valley you can still breathe his freedom, it is still possible to meet his son Folco and talk with he of spirituality and philosophy.

Orsigna it's a very calm place and it's also famous for the trekking streets, many trekking lovers comes here for walking

We went there because we read online that the hill will be open with a guided tour so we were curious to know more about it.

Orsigna have these hills really charming situated in the green fields near a river.

In the path that leads to the mills there is also a metato that is a place where chestnuts are prepared and stored for the winter, the Giamba mill is a water mill and above it at the top of the path there is the di berto, an old mill transformed into a very renowned restaurant for fresh dishes with local ingredients.

We parked near the village and then we immediately went towards the mill, to get there there is a path with a small wooden bridge that passes right next to and across the river, the places are idyllic and I couldn't help but take pictures of the magnificent valley that stretched out below us. We first went to the metato where it was explained to us how the chestnuts collected from the numerous chestnut groves of the valley were stored and shown the place and all of which was used for the processing of chestnuts. Then we headed to the mill that we were able to visit inside and with a guide who showed us all the equipment of the mill and surprised us with the jets of water operated by the surprise pumps, explaining every material used for the construction and also how important the mill was for the survival of the place. It was a really interesting and informative visit and it's really nice to see how the mills once worked.

After the tour in the mill we went to a concert in the valley and we relax listening a Jimi Hendrix cover band with one of the  official biogrhapyst of the artist. It was really an interesting and relaxing day and we really fell in love with Orsigna once more!
