in Italy in the autumn-winter period one of the most loved and widespread products is the chestnut, the fruit of the chestnut tree, in this period many people wander around the woods to collect these delicacies and around the cities there are bamcarelle with lit fires where to buy packets of hot chestnuts, the most faose are cooked in two ways, the frugiate are cooked over the fire, the ballotti are instead boiled in water, both of which must be peeled before eating them.

This is one of the main square of Vellano.

There are many festivals dedicated at the chestnut in all Italy, especially in Tuscany and Emilia region,  one of them it's really lovely and it's situated in the little village of Vellano.

This place it's situated in the hills of the Pescia mountains in a place called the Tuscanian Switzerland for the charming beauty of this places surrounded by mountains and green fields.

Vellano it's a little place with a medical construction kind of village, don't go there with heels because all the streets are made by steep rocks and the town is located on an aktura and made up of steep climbs and descents, so to visit it you need to have suitable shoes and in winter with ice I don't think it's easy for those who live there, even if only a few of about three hundred people live there in winter, a few more in summer, the place is delightful but away from cities and communities, the only activities there are a bar and a restaurant..

Here are all the chestnut ready for the fire and the wood for the fire too, as you can see chestnut are stored in a steel container and then boiled in a special pot with small holes underneath, so tabte chestnuts because there are so many people, in the village squares there was a station for chestnuts ready to be sold in bags. the cost was really negligible two euros for a full bag of chestnuts!

Here I put some random pictures of the wonderful view of Vellano, when you walk for the village streets there are some terraces where you can see the village and the nearest mountains

And here some pictures of the village, the lovely corners and some street view, as you can see everything look so old and lovely.

We obviously eat chestnut but we enjoyed also the visit to the village that looks so good and the air too look so fresh and pure. We remain til the evening and we was so happy when the dark comes because the night view from one of the most far terrace of the village, view on the main part of the village it's super charming.

I show you some photos. Hope you enjoyed this little online tour at the chestnut festival of Vellano
