Not far from my home on the Pistoia Apennines there is a village forgotten by everyone. I had not yet visited it despite being a few kilometers from where I live but I had heard about it and I was fascinated.
Lucchio is an almost uninhabited country, one of those places where if all goes well there are about fifty inhabitants.
They call it an invisible country because it is perched on a rock and can not be seen from the street.
Lucchio is a country that I would define in layers, like a Ferrero Rocher.
It has a castle that can not be seen at first glance but only by slowly climbing upwards. The ruins of this castle remain, which can be visited by steep paths.
I obviously made them not failing to stumble
From all over the country you can enjoy a magnificent view, many are the terraces overlooking the rock.
The houses are almost all in gray stone and the streets are deserted, only in summer there are some tourists, especially French and Dutch.
Lucchio appears fascinating right away, as soon as you enter after seeing the quarry under it you climb through narrow streets in the woods, with the dense vegetation typical of these mountains.
Once there is a small semi-deserted parking and immediately a terrace with a view.
The village rises from there and by a climb you can get to the small square where there is a bar open only during the summer months. The bar is the only activity of Lucchio.
The place is really quaint and you happen to make a jump in the province of Lucca I recommend you visit it!
