I always loved the little city of Poppi in the province of Arezzo, i use to went there when I was a child and coming back here it's always a pleasure. It's a member of the borghi più belli di Italia, the most beautiful Italian villages.
You can see Poppi from far because it had a big and old castle, made by counts Guidi during the middle ages, it was an important castle for the position so high on the valley, when we arrive close to Poppi by car we stop for make a photo from far to the castle, surrounded by the green, Poppi it's situated in a hills area, it was used also as a scenography for the movie " Il ciclone" with Leonardo Pieraccioni.
The Poppi Village have some monuments dedicated to the deaths of the second world war, are very impressive and a memory of big impact of our losses during the war, that's why there is a part on the main church with the Italian flag. But the most impressive part of Poppi it's the castle, part of the eco museum of the casentino ( the region of Poppi, famous for the typically cypress trees) with some rooms used as a Morden and interactive museum, a important and big charming library named rilli vettori , as a book lover I fell in love of the library,I could stay there for hours!
And naturally the castle it's awesome too especially the castle staircase that looks like Hogwarts staircase or a Escher paint if you photograph them in black and white.
After the visit to the castle we went down to the village where we found some shops that are really old fashioned, especially one all dedicated to our Vespa, unlucky we don't have enough time for visiting the sanctuary of Camaldoli, I went there as a child and it's really a holy and peaceful and charming place, if you visit Poppi you must visit Camaldoli too. But we really enjoyed this little trip next time we plan to stay there more than a day trip!
