At the time there seemed to be a lot going on in Queensland, big political changes and inquires.  My parents had just retired to the Sunshine Coast and I was able to transfer the last year of my Electrical Apprenticeship from the John Perry Lifts Melbourne Branch to the Brisbane office. Almost as soon as I arrived in Queensland I was away on a 9 month working holiday to Canberra. Then when I was finally back in my new home town Brisbane,  World Expo was kicking off. It was all happening.

The season pass cost $160Aud for 6 month of entry, quite expensive back in 1988. It was hard to know if it was going to be worth while early on but I thought all the music concerts alone would make it good value. In the end I did not get to that many of the concerts because there was so much else to do.

It was definitely very popular, lots of my friends came to visit and wanted to check it all out, I had never heard or seen anything like it before. A 100 pavilions representing countries and business from all over the world.

Parades, street performers, hovercraft rides on the river, they even build a amusement park with a small roller coast ride, but most of the rides cost extra.

The Expo passport was a bit of fun getting all the pavilion stamps.

Some of my favourites were the American pavilion because it had a sport theme and this great movie with an incredible sound system. The Swiss Pavilion and its small ski slope and gonadal ride, The Australian pavilion with its Aboriginal dream time special effect show and one pavilion that had a simulator ride not sure if it was the British or Japanese.

I wish I had of taken a lot more photos now but it was a different time and I am lucky to still have to few I got.
