The gumbaynggirr people the traditional custodians of this area call this place Wiigulga which means ”black apple” and is origin of the name Woolgoolga. The locals like to call it Woopi. I just like it as it is a magical piece of Australian coast line. We did not see any black apples but they are some sort of black fruit on a tree.

Most of these photos were taken while I was on an early morning run from our motel accommodation along the main street, up to the head land lookout and back.

While we were watching the surfers. I noticed some movement on the beach. First up I just thought it was some more surfers heading out into the water but then they started jumping and moving fast. I was not sure what the Kangaroos were trying to do as they were pretty much just straight out to the waters edge and back into the bush, which came right down to the sand dunes. A quick google search suggests they might have been after some early morning sea weed for breakfast. A group of Kangaroo’s can be called a mob, troop or court but these ones just looked it a family, I liked the small one that was a the back trying to keep up. It was a pity I did not have a better camera with me and i was lucky to snap these with my phone on x30 zoom.
