This may have been the closest I got to some of the holiest of places in the Catholic Church's Vatican City, a city-state which is totally surrounded by Rome, Italy. I am struggling to remember all the details of my 6 week Contiki bus tour of Western Europe. But I think entering the museum, Palazzo San Carlo and Sistine chapel was an option extra. For quite a few on the bus this was the best day, the main attraction the whole point of their tour. I was a little churched and museumed out and had probably spent too much of my limited budget on beer. The old photo below is definitely part of my collection from 34 years ago but I think someone else took it and gave it to me. They must have felt sorry that I could not go inside. It is very impressive. The photo may have converted me as I ended up sending my son to a Catholic School but that's another different long story. Looking back I wish I had have been more interested and read up on some of the history. Overall I have not been a big fan of any of the Regions other than Australia Rules Football! but being able to access some of the catholic school system did open my mind up a bit.The people in the picture give a great scale to the size and grandeur of the place. I thought I would attach a few unsplashed photos to help me remember this place as well. Photo by Caleb Miller on Unsplash Photo by Alberico Bartoccini on Unsplash Photo by Clay Banks on Unsplash
