V is for Varsity lakes parkrun, it is a popular place to visit in this part of the world for parkrun tourists. parkrun’s starting with V are a bit harder to find. Varsity is a bit of a University town at the back of the famous Gold Coast in Queensland. It was and I think it still is head office for parkrun in Australia and Asia too. In the early days you would always see someone from head office around. Things seem to have changed a bit nowadays. Just like everything things don’t stay the same, people move on. In the early days we would see the parkrun team out and about spreading the word. We are not as active as we used to be but maybe it had got so big it is hard to follow and keep up with everything that is going on. Either way it is still great to do a bit of a run with like minded people. I have run here twice and volunteered once. It was actually Caroline’s first parkrun before we met. She was on holiday from Sydney visiting a friend and just showed up at the nearest event after hearing about it in Sydney. Some of these photos feel like such a long time ago, 100s of parkrun ago lol.

It is a pretty flat and fast concrete path course except for the bridge at the start. A Y shaped, double out and back. I actually over ran the far end turn around once. I still find it hard to believe I ran past a cone, chalk marks and a flag. Maybe I was expecting a marshal. I soon worked it out when the path ended, it was only a couple of hundred meters extra overall but I felt bad because someone behind actually followed me. That can be my excuse for not having a fast time at this location.
